ADHD & Daily Routines
The reminder still goes off every morning. You dismiss it with the confidence of someone who definitely remembers what it was meant to remind them to do.

The Pattern
Routines reduce decisions, but still depend on noticing a cue, remembering the next step, and returning after interruption. Those parts may be less reliable with ADHD. For more detail, see Why can't I stick to routines?.
One missed morning becomes “I’ll restart Monday.” Monday hears about this arrangement for the first time. A durable routine needs a small version and a clear way back in.
What Actually Helps
- → Mark the step that keeps the routine alive on a difficult day; let the rest be optional.
- → Attach it to an existing cue and keep the needed materials there.
- → Make reminders name the exact action—“put lunch in bag” beats “morning routine.”
- → Put the restart instruction where the routine happens: after a gap, do the easiest step next.
Choose one routine and write its smallest restart step now.
