ADHD & Money
The banking app was supposed to be a quick visit. It has become a cost-benefit analysis of owning a bread maker. The bill has not benefited from this analysis.
The Pattern
ADHD can make it harder to pause an impulse, remember recurring payments, keep future costs in view, or begin boring financial admin. An immediate purchase can feel concrete while next month’s bill is easy to postpone. That is a practical problem, not a character verdict.
Small forgotten costs can become surprisingly durable. The free trial transforms into a six-month financial relationship while the cancellation email waits unopened. Keep money routines simple enough to resume after a missed week.
What Actually Helps
- → Delay nonessential purchases for a period you choose; keep them on a wish list while you wait.
- → Where appropriate, automate recurring bills or reminders, and review them regularly.
- → Use one short weekly money check: current balance, upcoming bills, and subscriptions.
- → Remove stored cards or one-click checkout if easy purchasing regularly outruns your decision.
Use five minutes for one real money task: pay, cancel, check, or delay a purchase deliberately.
